Goodbye, Microsoft!

Are you tired of paying hundreds or thousands of dollars for your computer's software? Tired of having to buy upgrades, and new hardware to run the upgrades? Tired of crashes, security flaws, cyber-attacks, and worrying if your computer is safe to use? Had enough of license agreements, lock-downs, and restrictions on what you can do with your computer? Worried about your business being sued for making a careless copy?

It doesn't have to be that way. You can live your life free of Microsoft, and free of their thousand and one petty annoyances. And you can save money in the process.

This website is devoted to helping you say Goodbye to Microsoft, and to "Take Back the PC."
The "Half-Caf"

Maybe there's a reason you can't get rid of Windows -- corporate policy, or you need some application which requires Windows. You can still get rid of all that other Microsoft software that you're using -- like Office, and Outlook, and Internet Explorer. This will save you a lot of money, and make your computer much more secure against hacking.

Read about replacements for Microsoft applications. And if you're keeping Windows installed, you'd better read about securing your computer.

The "Decaf"

Kicking the habit completely is easier than you might think. If you already own a PC, you can install the Linux® operating system. You'll get office software, Internet, e-mail, multimedia, and everything else you expect on your PC. You can choose software which is low-cost, or completely free! And you'll be secure against 99% of the cyber-attacks on the Internet.

Read about choosing and installing Linux. If you have a few old Windows programs that you need, read about running Windows software under Linux.

The Mac

This entire website assumes that you already own a Windows-compatible PC. If you're shopping for a new computer, you might want to consider an Apple "Mac." That gives you all the benefits of being Microsoft-free, except for saving money. We don't offer any specific advice about Macs, other than to say they are a good choice if you can afford them.
